Movie Review: The Croods, A New Age

This movie is so underrated it's a crime!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH. SO FAR THE BEST ONE I'VE WATCHED THIS YEAR (which actually doesn't mean anything, because I've been on a 'movie slump'). I couldn't stop laughing at the dark humour. But let's be honest, the characters are... not very pretty.

At the start, I thought Hope and Phil were villains. When Hope gave Ugga the fruit basket despite knowing she wants to stay, I was ready to slap her silly. They look down on people and instead of lifting the Cavemen up, they want them outside the fence where it's more dangerous. It's a typical Us and Them situation. And they gaslighted Grugg and Ugga!! But afterwards, the movie show us how people can change to become better and relationships can bloom if given time.

Dawn is so adorable! I would love to be her friend! I actually shipped Eep and Dawn together. I think if Dawn has to made a choice between Guy or Eep, she should choose Eep. When Eep crawled all the way up the tree defying gravity to confront Guy for calling her a 'cave girl', I was cheering for her all the way up. "He's a boy. He's Stupid". I agree. But still, I think Guy is a nice guy, pun intended. I'm just going to admit that I don't like Eep. I admire her muscles and feel really sad for her when she is going through issues, but her character is just not endearing to me which is really a shame. It doesn't mean I think Guy should have ended up with Dawn instead, Guy and Eep together is cute. (I don't really like Guy as well AHAHAHA) As a whole, although I don't like any of the characters (except perhaps Dawn and Ugga), they make the movie work. I just won't set any of their individual photos as my wallpaper like I did with Olaf in Frozen.

Girlfriends are the best.

THUNDER SISTERS!!! GIRL POWER!!!! WOMEN SAVING THE MEN!!!! I love that scene where the grandmother gives each of them new superhero names (My favourite name is Bog Water) and the dramatic scene where the thunder sisters arrive just before the monster eats the men!!! Girl warriors on wolf spiders?? AWESOME. Then a dash of bromance?? Men cave? Banana Bros? Fathers crying and admitting they are wrong? This movie embraces feminism and non-toxic masculinity, and I'm so down for it.

And of course, the animation, the colour and the concept are wonderful!

DA DA DAAA!!!     (I don't know which sloth is cuter, Belt in The Croods or Flash in Zootopia)

When Sash (pink) proposes to Belt(Brown), it's so cute!!!
