Movie Review: Before Sunrise

One of the sweetest scenes I've ever watched

I watched this movie because it's suggested as a love story between an INFP and ENFJ. I love 90s movies. Notting Hill, My Girl, 10 things I hate about you, When Harry Met Sally, 13 going 30 etc. I've watched them all,I don't know why I've never heard of this movie, but I'm happy to have something new to watch. I don't know anyone else who I can have a 90s movie marathon with, it's really sad. I can't quite put my finger on the difference between old movies and now, there's just this classical element in old movies which just makes them valuable and meaningful. Maybe it's the dialogue or the originality of the plot. I love the 90s fashion! The movies now are just full of sex and weird. I digress.

What I love most about this movie is their conversation. Nothing exciting really happens in the movie. It's just them talking and walking around Venice. The chemistry is blinding. From the beginning to the end, it's just simple but beautiful. Meeting on the train and spending just one day together in Venice seems so cheesy, but there's something more, I can't explain it.

I don't know what else I can say, it's a movie you need to watch by yourself. When I say they don't really do anything in the movie, it's the truth. It's the conversation that makes it a movie, take away the audio and subtitles, you're only left with intense eye contact. If you don't like listening to pure discussions and watch strangers fall in love, and prefer those movies where two people find each other mysterious and unexplainably get into toxic dependency or a lot of sex scenes, this movie ain't for you.

I bet the actor and actress are attracted to each other, you can't fake a chemistry like that, I don't care how good you are as an actor. I almost forgot to mention, this movie is based on the real life experience of the director. He made this movie hoping that the girl he met ages ago would recognise their story and contact him, but sadly, he found out later that that girl has passed away few years before this movie was made. She never gets to know how much that day meant to him. *cries

The ending isn't like Titanic or One Day. There is no crying involved, no one dies. But it's still very sad. It's like waking up from a marvellous dream that you know you're going to completely forget one day, but right now you hold on to that feeling that starts to blur around the edges, and you can't help but smile although you don't really remember what it was about anymore.

This movie is giving me very unrealistic expectation. I've never seen any men reading on the train. People are always on their goddamn phones. At the end of the movie, Celine admitted the moment she fell for Jessie, and it was the exact same moment as I did. I'm convinced ENFJ is my soulmate's personality, but I don't know any ENFJ. Fuck.

P.S. I didn't know it's the first movie of a trilogy called 'Before'. I think I'm going to cry since it's pretty clear they missed a lot of years together.

The tension here was intense.

SHIT. TRUE. Isn't this the same with friends?
